What is TRAVLR?
TRAVLR is a travel map, trip journal and route planner that runs in your browser. Log the
trips you have taken and it draws each route across a 3D globe and fills in every country you
have been to; share trips and lists with the people you travelled with; and pick the next
place from more than 43,000 in its catalogue. Free to start, on any screen with a modern
browser.
Is TRAVLR free?
Free to start, and free to keep using. A free account maps five trips with every stop,
photo and note in them, reaches the whole catalogue of places, and carries some ads. Pro
removes the ads, lifts the trip limit, opens the other twenty-odd map styles, and adds
offline maps, heatmaps, travel stats and a full data export. Monthly, yearly, or a
one-off lifetime price.
Do I need an account?
To save anything, yes, since your trips have to belong to someone. To open a trip somebody
sent you, no. Shared links work signed out.
Can I import my trips from Polarsteps or Google Timeline?
Yes — from Settings, Import trips. TRAVLR reads Polarsteps exports, Google Timeline, GPX
and KML. Stops, dates, notes and coordinates arrive as real trips on the map rather than
as something to retype, Polarsteps photos come with them, and everything lands private
until you decide otherwise.
How does TRAVLR draw the routes between stops?
By the way you travelled. You set the mode for each leg — flight, train, car, bus, bike,
motorbike, boat or hike — and the line follows it: flights on a great circle, cars, buses
and bikes on real roads, walks on paths, trains on the rail network, boats on water. The
line between two stops is the one you actually took, not a ruler across the map.
Who can see my trips?
Whoever you decide. Each trip carries its own visibility: private, shared with named
people, or open to anyone holding the link. A recorded GPS track works the same way, is
private by default, and only records while you have it switched on.
Is there an iPhone or Android app?
Not yet. TRAVLR runs in any modern browser today, on a phone as readily as on a desktop,
and there is nothing to install. Native apps are being built.
What can I do with a finished trip?
Replay it as an animation across the globe and export that as an MP4. Send a link that
opens it where you left it. Order it as a poster, a photobook, or an NFC postcard that
opens the trip when somebody taps it. Or leave it private — the country count goes up
either way.
